So I’m waiting for Andy doing his haircut at that good-smelling barber shop. At first I think it’s awkward for me sitting in the shop, not only because I am a girl but also because I am an “Asian girl”. For some reason I always feel like I’m an outsider here. I believe the Asian people who live here for a long time do not feel the same way as me.

So sometimes I’m wondering if it’s because of the language, the culture, the appearance, or just the way I think. I know there will be less obstacles if I can speak English fluently just like the people who grow up here. This is also something that I have thought for a long time, that if I ever need to desire to be a part of the society in Canada. But after two weeks living here, I realized that it’s unnecessary to think in this way.

At the end, I am who I am, a girl from Taiwan, speaking Mandarin and Taiwanese. I don’t speak English as fast as the people in Vancouver, I often miss the words when people are talking to me, I sometimes have difficulty understanding others’ speech, and I don’t know how to reply to them. But it’s OK because that’s just who I am right now. I don’t have to be low self-esteem because of any bad things or people I meet here. I know that as long as I go back to my hometown,I’m still a really good person.

All I need to do is relax and let myself enjoy the fresh things here but not worry or expect too much. And I believe that’s what my journey should be.

So I just seize the time to capture the beauty of the city, and feel things that come into my mind. Feel myself, learn to talk to my soul, find out what’s inside me and who I really want to be. Day by day, I’m getting closer to myself. And That’s enough.
